TruEarth™ 3D Terrain Models

TerraMetrics TruEarth 3D terrain models are highly efficient three-dimensional datasets used for rendering geographically accurate, true-to-life scenes of real places. When coupled with TruEarth 1km satellite imagery texture maps, resulting renderings faithfully portray the terrain’s actual look and feel for a particular location.

Our 3D terrain models are based on elevation and vector boundary datasets (coastal and/or political) collected from numerous sources including worldwide government agencies, third-party vendors, and internally-generated resources. The products are then produced using in-house developed techniques utilizing methods from the digital image processing, mapping, and computer graphics fields.

Off-the-shelf TruEarth 3D terrain models include 4km models of the 48 mainland U.S. states and Hawaii. Higher-resolution U.S. models and worldwide models are available as custom products with a 10-day delivery turnaround time.



TruEarth™ 1km Satellite Imagery

TerraMetrics’ TruEarth is the first cloud-free global Earth image based on actual landcover coloring. The result is a remarkable and stunning visual portrayal of our planet... a truly next-generation Earth image product.

At its full size, the TruEarth image is 43,200 pixels wide by 21,600 lines high with a nominal ground resolution of 1 kilometer x 1 kilometer per pixel (about 0.6 mile x 0.6 mile/pixel). Even most local mountain and valley features are visible... worldwide! At the conventional 4-color print quality of 133 lpi, the TruEarth image spans a staggering 9 meters (27 feet)! At full photographic print quality of 305 lpi, the TruEarth image spans nearly 4 meters (12 feet). At broadcast video resolutions, the frame can be filled by a geographic region the size of the state of Colorado, U.S.A.

TruEarth™ 30-meter Satellite Imagery

TerraMetrics’ TruEarth takes it to a new level with TruEarth30, 30-meter-per-pixel, substantially cloud-free Earth imagery. With nearly global coverage in-house, the result is a seamless level-of-detail flow from our TruEarth 1km global imagery into tight country, regional, and metro-area shots. And, of course, TruEarth30 imagery shows Earth with its true natural landcover colors.

The clarity and detail of TruEarth30 30-meter imagery is unbelievable! For broadcast video, TruEarth30 has the resolution to fill the frame with a geographic region the size of an average community within a metropolitan area. TruEarth30 imagery gets you in 33 times closer than our standard TruEarth 1km global imagery! Manmade features such as major structures and roadways are visible, making it perfect for close-in regional and metro-area work.
