Description
SceneExplorer is an all-purpose productivity tool for the management of complex scenes within the 3ds max™ 4 environment. Instead of having to click in multiple locations in order to perform a number of common scene maintenance tasks (such as making objects visible or invisible), SceneExplorer provides the user with a single floating dialog that gives them instant access to everything in one panel.
Look at what is contained within this powerful utility:
Graphically indicated object type
Select/Deselect objects
Shift-select for selecting a range of objects
Select entire sub-hierarchy by double-clicking on an object
Hide/Unhide with state shown by icon - object can remain visible based on filter settings
Freeze/Unfreeze with state shown by icon - object can remain visible based on filter settings
Un/Hide, Un/Freeze, Open/Close and Expand/Collapse for many objects
Un/Hide, Un/Freeze, Open/Close and Expand/Collapse for an entire hierarchy of objects
Group Element selection - independent of whether the group is closed
Show hierarchy with selective collapse/expand
Rename an object - even if it is not selected
Hide/Show by Node type
Indication if an object is an XRef object
Indication if an object is animated
Another really important aspect of SceneExplorer is that it can be adapted to each user’s style of working. Using it’s own filter set it can be called upon whenever needed. It’s launched with one mouse click. If you quickly just need to see a flattened view of the entire scene click the Flatten icon. Click it again to see the entire hierarchy. If you just need to see the lights then right-click on the lights filter toolbar button. The Undo Filters toolbutton reverts back to the previous view. Clear Filters quickly lets you see everything again. For maximum convenience the SceneExplorer Filtering and Navigation action tables stay active while the popup explorer is open. When you’re done using it it can be hidden from view again with the same shortcut. Plus it has full Quad menu support so that you can add standard MAX functionality (such as turning lights on or off, viewing object properties, etc.) and futher customize it. Just look what it offers and at how it can be tweaked:
Multi column layout
Flattened or Hierarchial layout
Alphabetical or 3ds max sorted layout
Filtering of contents of SceneExplorer
Filter sets for multiple instances of SceneExplorer with Undo/Redo
SceneExplorer as a floating window or in a 3ds max viewport
Action for hide/show of a floating SceneExplorer to replace the SelectByName 3ds max built-in
Mouse as well as keyboard based scrolling/paging through contents
Collapsable and completely hidden toolbars for space saving
Configurable fonts and colors for various states of object (not/selected, hidden, frozen)
Remember collapse/expanse state in scene file
Display objects with their wirecolor (selectable mode)
Saves layout of all open explorers and filter set states at exit
Customizable background color
Different image options for different background colors
Jump to last selected object (can be enabled for automatic operation)
Who needs this tool? Everyone. Honestly, it is versatile enough to help architects as well as the film/video/game community. It’s that robust. And speaking of architects, SceneExplorer is fully compatible with the upcoming release of Autodesk VIZ 4, so architects and designers can manage their complex scenes and walkthroughs with ease.
